Nothing like some tropical nu disco to shake off the frost of January. Parisian producer Zimmer remixes the Portuguese Moullinex’s “To Be Clear.” The oriental horn in the first 2 seconds harkens a call for a much needed disco/house journey to a place where polar vortexes are a distant worry. Quite the european dream team. Courtesy of Mixmag.

This is Barcelona on Barcelona action right here. London based Experimental artist and visual designer Pyrenees has his “Natural Environments” get a House recharge from fellow Catalans, We Like Turtles. The production duo puts their trademark, no holds barred 90s-style House into hyperdrive. The original roots of Pyrenees’ experimental sounds are still present but the added speed and vocal samples allow this track to leap to the dancefloor. Free download, plus a bonus I found while reacquainting my self with We Like Turtles.

Brooklyn producer Bit Funk is one of my favorite electronic acts for the simple fact that he is consistent. Every few weeks he’ll put out a new remix, edit or original and more often than not it will be awesome (and free). The Pharcyde’s classic track “Runnin” may be considered inalienable to some folks but I like the way Bit Funk tears back a few of the layers and adds a groovy house vibe to a reshuffle. Its a real no frills remix and it just made my week.

Alba aka Albatross are a production duo from Australia. Though I hadn’t heard them until now, apparently they’ve been touring with the likes of Mount Kimbie and Four Tet. Their first release in over a year, “Knokke” is quite simply brilliant House music - an unusual intro keeps you guessing until around the 20 second mark when a delicate synth pops up and keeps jabbing. The track builds and builds with all manners of flittering sounds until the midpoint where the melody drops into perfection and your ears can’t help but smile.

Mere moments ago, my Dutch compatriot GANZ released a new EP entitled PVRPLE CWTCH. Though some may think that ‘moments’ are not long enough to fully assess music, I must protest that this is not a normal piece of music. True to his style, the Amsterdam producer tears at your ears from the get go. “Its All Good” may actually be the most gentle of the trio of tracks but with the relentless drums and distorted bass, you wouldn’t immediately notice. “Purple Forest” is immediately jarring (in a good way) and brings to mind the work of Rustie. Finally, “Get One’s” starts slowly and builds into an underground anthem of sorts when the bass truly starts kicking down the door around the 1 minute mark. PVRPLE CWTCH EP drops in mid-november, in the meantime these 3 tracks are more than enough for my ears to handle.
